BRITISH COLUMBIA SPRING BLACK BEAR HUNTS Come spot and stalk for big spring black bears in beautiful British Columbia! The world famous Kootenay Region in south eastern British Columbia holds great numbers of the many different North American big game species found there. Our spring black bear hunts start in late May each year and run thru mid June. You can add wolf to this hunt for the cost of tag, tax and trophy fee.
THE HUNT: You arrive in Radium Hot Springs, B.C the day before your hunt to meet with our outfitter. From there you travel into camp where you will be treated to some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever see. The next morning your hunt starts. You will hunt for the entire hunt dates or until you are tagged out. This is a horseback adventure that is fairly easy when it comes to horseback hunts. We travel the rivers and logging road network that is found in the area to find your bear. Our clients should expect to travel by horseback for many miles each day. We find our spring bears roaming and feeding in the green grass areas located in or around one of the many logging roads, slide areas and log blocks. These areas green up in early spring and the bears go to there for food after they leave their dens in late spring.
AREA: Our area in British Columbia consists of approximately 900 square miles. Located 20 km east of Radium Hot Springs, B.C., our territory sits directly between Banff and Kootenay National Parks with Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park being our northern boundary. Elevation is 2000 to 8000 ft depending on what you are hunting, but with bear hunting the majority is done between 3000 and 4000 ft. Vast drainages come together to help form the Mitchell River drainage and that’s where we hunt. This area is big and vast, but it creates one heck of a wildlife travel corridor.
GUIDES: Our Outfitter has over 30 yrs of British Columbia big game hunting experience. This is a family operation with the outfitter’s wife being the camp coordinator and cook. We have only 2-3 guides in camp during the entire season. Our guides are experienced and know the area and its wildlife.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The hunter should expect a quality, back country adventure. We cannot guarantee a trophy bear, but rest assured that our staff will work hard to make your British Columbia hunt one of a lifetime.
Black bears ranging from 5’6”- 7” are found in the area. The average bear harvested is 6’. We do not square our bears; we measure from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail.
